Japanese court upholds government approval of experimental reactor

TOKYO (AP) - The Japanese Supreme Court on Monday upheld government approval of an experimental fast-breeder nuclear reactor, paving the way for the reopening of a facility that was shut down a decade ago by an accident and coverup.

The ruling reversed a 2003 decision by a high court that nullified the government's 1983 approval to build the Monju reactor in Tsuruga, 320 kilometers (200 miles) west of Tokyo, said Takao Arakawa, a court spokesman.
