Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is expected to announce a second round of changes at its top level sometime next month, a senior TM official said yesterday.
The official said it would involve several appointments including head of the group procurement division which is a newly created unit; head of TM International, a unit that spearheads TM’s overseas ventures; and chief financial officer for TM’s cellular unit Celcom (M) Bhd.
The official declined to give further details but said TM was serious about getting the structure in order as quickly as possible.
Changes at the top level have been on the cards for months and although it is merely a reshuffle to ensure that the “best man gets the right job’’ it is also to ensure that the initiatives announced by chief executive Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar bear results.
On Thursday, TM announced four key appointments, marking the first round of key changes at the telco. Bazlan Osman was appointed group chief financial officer, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa as senior vice president of group strategy and technology; Christian de Faria and Jaffa Sani respectively take on new roles of CEO and CFO of Indonesia’s PT Excelcomindo Pratama, in which TM has a 23% stake.
Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Idris Ibrahim, the chief operating officer of TM Wholesale, one of the two major business units of TM, contacted StarBiz yesterday and explained that he was “still waiting for an offer from TM” and had not submitted his resignation letter.
Idris said in a text message to StarBiz that: “Concerning my position, three alternatives were discussed. One was for me to head TM's research and development unit; the second to remain at TM Wholesale but in an advisory capacity.
“And third, an early retirement. This is where TM will buy back the remaining (period) of my contract. After further discussions, it was decided that TM will offer an early retirement and I am still waiting for the offer.”
TM officials were not available for comment. However, sources said Idris is on a contract and a mutual agreement has been reached by both parties.
