LAURA Ashley Holdings plc has proven critics wrong when it reported a 55% increase in pre-tax profits of £4.8mil (RM33.6mil) for the last financial year.

The company’s earnings for the 52 weeks to Jan 29, 2005, exceeded the brokers’ forecasts of between £3.6mil (RM25.2mil) and £4.2mil (RM29.4mil) and last year’s pre-tax level of £3.1mil (RM21.7mil).
