SEOUL: South Korean banks reported yesterday a record combined profits for 2004, as data showed households in Asias third largest economy buying more on credit, underpinning hopes for an upturn in the financial sector.
Banks have been benefiting from reduced bad-loan charges after being shaken badly by a credit-card crisis and high-profile corporate accounting fraud in 2003.
