Telekom Malaysia Bhd expects to double the number of its broadband customers this year, from a total of 270,000 subscribers as at end December 2004.
Group chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar said the group was bullish with the figures, adding that broadband was among the company's fastest growing business segments to date.
At present, households comprise 90% of the total number of TM Net users while the rest are from the commercial or business sector.
“We will continue with our rollout of broadband services,” he told reporters after the signing of an agreement between TM Net Sdn Bhd and Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Earlier, TM Net and Utusan signed an agreement on broadband content collaboration through TMNet e-browse, an online newspaperreading facility via www.Bluehyppo.com.
The agreement was signed between TM Net chief executive officer Datuk Baharum Salleh and Utusan Melayu group executive director Nasir Mohd Ali.
The broadband initiative will enable tmnet streamyx subscribers to read exact replicas of Kumpulan Utusan’s publications, Utusan Malaysia (daily), Mingguan Malaysia and Kosmo (daily) and Kosmo Ahad. – Bernama
