Shipping costs for iron ore, coal and dry-bulk rise to three-week high

SHIPPING costs for iron ore, coal and other dry-bulk commodities rose for a fourth consecutive session to the highest in three weeks as the end of the holiday season revived requests for shipping space.  

The Baltic Dry Index, which measures the cost of shipping such goods on different-sized ships, rose 99 points, or 2.1%, to 4726, the highest since Dec 21. The index has jumped 7.3% in four sessions, after a 24% drop last month.
