Despite some hiccups caused primarily by external factors, 2004 was by and large a good year for Bursa Malaysia, with the KL Composite Index (KLCI) closing at its highest level in eight years.
Buoyed by strong interest in blue chips, the benchmark index ended the year at 907.4 points, 113.5 points or 14.3% higher than its 2003 close of 793.9. It was the index's best showing since the end of 1996, when it touched 1,238 points.
