HONG KONG: Hong Kong bought its own currency and sold US dollars amid a decline in the city's dollar. Since May Hong Kong bought about HK$49bil (US$6.3bil), close to the amount it sold between September last year and February.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority bought HK$1.56bil of its currency, according to the central bank's page on the Bloomberg Professional Service. Its currency has been officially valued at 7.8 against the U.S. dollar since 1983.
