BEIJING: Sumitomo Mitsui Bank, a unit of Japan’s third-largest banking group, has been given approval to open a branch in Hangzhou, which will make it the first foreign bank to operate in eastern Zhejiang province, the Xinhua news agency reported.
The branch will be the Japanese bank’s fifth in China.
