Setia Precast Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the housing developer SP Setia Bhd, will collaborate with Australian private companies to further develop the prefabricated building technology into a modularised component-based construction technique.

General manager Othman Jaki said the system called the industrialised building system (IBs) would involve the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the production of components to generate a deeper and wider impact on the economy.

“We want to promote innovation in the building sector and to learn the latest techniques in the industry. We want to know how the Australians do benchmarking,” he told Bernama

He said he had held talks with several Australian private companies last week and they were interested in collaborating with Malaysian companies. Othman was a delegation member of the trade and investment mission to Australia from July 21 to 29 led by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz. The mission covered Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

He also said that there was a possibility of a collaboration with private sectors in Australia, especially in building technology to produce building components in Malaysia. – Bernama
