Kenaf may be next golden crop for Malaysia


KENAF, a tropical plant from the hibiscus family, could be the country's next golden crop that would rival palm oil in the foreseeable future as it has potential commercial value. 

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and National Economic Action Council (NEAC) chairman Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said kenaf, or Hibiscus Cannabinus, could be the base raw material for commercial products such as bio-composites for the automotive, building materials, animal feed, and the pulp and paper industries.
