UMW-Mitsubishi 25-year ties a success

This month, UMW Holdings wholly-owned subsidiary UMW Industrial Power Sd Bhd celebrates its 25-year partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd Japan; particularly the successful marketing of the Mitsubishi marine engines in Malaysia. StarBiz' Yvonne Chong spoke to some shipbuilders and shipping companies in and toured the factory in Sagamihara, Japan, where the machines are made.

IN 1995, when UMW Industrial Power first took up the distributorship for Mitsubishi marine engines, the local shipbuilding and shipping industry was dominated by Caterpillar and Cummins. Mitsubishi marine engines were almost unheard of.
