AIRASIA, whose 17 airplanes have been flying with good passenger loads but largely empty bellies, hopes to fill the under-floor space of its Boeing 737s with cargo to supplement the revenue from passenger ticket sales.
Its chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said although freight would not form a significant part of turnover, it nevertheless would help the budget airline which had among the lowest costs in the world at 2.5 US cents per available seat kilometres, maintain its cheap fares.
