TOKYO: The number of workers on regular payrolls in Japan increased in April by 0.4% from a year earlier, the first rise in six years on the back of the economic recovery, the labour ministry said yesterday.
The gain to 42.86 million regular workers marked the first increase since April 1998, the ministry said in a preliminary report. Analysts said the upbeat job situation would boost consumer confidence and possibly spending.
