The board and management restructuring at Telekom Malaysia Bhd entails the entry of two new directors and the resignation of two others.

After concluding its board meeting yesterday, Telekom said it was appointing Azman Mokhtar and Datuk Nur Jazlan Tan Sri Mohamed as directors.

They will assume their board seats from June 1.

On the same day, Datuk Dr Munir Majid and Tan Poh Keat would resign as directors. However, Munir and Tan would remain the chairman and director respectively of Telekom's cellular unit, Celcom (M) Bhd.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, Telekom said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Haji Daud, who would retire as the deputy chief executive/executive director on June 30, would remain as non-executive director.

Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar, currently the managing director of United Engineers Malaysia Bhd, would assume the post of managing director/chief executive officer of Telekom effective July 1.

The size of the board would be reduced to 9 members comprising chairman Tan Sri Ir Mohd Radzi Mansor, Wahid, Azman, Nur Jazlan, Rahim, Datuk Abdul Majid Hussein, Datuk Lim Kheng Guan, Prabahar NK Singam and Rosli Man.

In welcoming the new directors to the Telekom board, the company also recorded its appreciation for the outgoing directors and chief executive Datuk Dr Khir Abdul Rahman, who retires at the end of June, for their valuable service and contributions.

Meanwhile, Azman would, also on June 1, assume his new post as the chief executive officer of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, which is a major shareholder of Telekom. Azman represents Khazanah’s interest at Telekom.

Nur Jazlan is the Member of Parliament of Pulai in Johor. He has been an Umno Youth exco member since 1996 and is also Barisan Nasional chairman for Pulai. He is also council member of the Asean Federation of Accountants as well as adviser and council member for ACCA Malaysia.
