THE United Engineers (Malaysia) Bhd Group (UEM) yesterday signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) with two Indonesian toll road-related companies, PT Jasa Marga (Persero) and PT Sarana Margabhakti Utama, to explore joint opportunities in the development and privatisation of new tolled roads in Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries.
PT Jasa is a company with more than two decades of experience in toll road services while PT Sarana specialises in road equipment and concrete structure application.
In a statement issued in Kuala Lumpur, UEM said the MoUs were signed in Jakarta between UEM and PT Jasa Marga and between Teras Teknologi Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of UEM, and PT Sarana Margabhakti Utama.
UEM is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Syarikat Danasaham Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the government’s investment arm.
UEM group managing director and CEO Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar said the strategic alliance with the Indonesian companies was a step in the right direction for the group.
He said the UEM group was looking forward to a win-win relationship with the Indonesian companies and the technological collaboration would provide an exciting learning experience for both parties.
“With UEM’s experience and skills in infrastructure development and Teras’ experience in revolutionising the toll collection system in Malaysia, we believe we can contribute positively towards tolled road development in Indonesia,” Wahid said. – Bernama
