WASHINGTON (AP) - The International Monetary Fund said it could vote as soon as next week on the nomination of former Spanish Finance Minister Rodrigo Rato to be the new managing director of the 184-nation lending organisation.
The IMF said its 24-member executive board met informally Tuesday to discuss the next steps in the selection process and had invited Rato and the only other candidate in the race, Mohamed El-Erian, an Egyptian, to meet with IMF directors this week.
