  • EDARAN OTOMOBIL NASIONAL BHD said it has applied to the Securities Commission for a further extension of three months until Aug 20 to implement and complete its proposed dividends in specie of unit EON Capital Bhd shares. 

    Earlier, EON said it plans to distribute up to 347.27 million EON Capital shares or a 50.1% stake via payment of dividend in specie, bonus issue and capital repayment. This includes a proposed payment of dividend in specie of up to 175.51 million EON Capital shares or 25.32% stake to its shareholders. – AFX-Asia 

  • A substantial shareholder of Astro All Asia Network plc Haji Affendi Tun Haji Mohd Fuad Stephens, has sold 5,000 shares of 10 pence each, representing a stake of 0.0003% in Astro. Immediately prior to the disposal, he had direct beneficial interest in 225,000 Astro shares and deemed interest in 177,446,535 shares, representing 0.012% and 9.25% of the total issued capital of the company respectively.  

    In a statement to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Astro said the disposal resulted in a decrease in Affendi's direct beneficial stake to 220,000 shares, representing 0.011% of the issued share capital of the company. 

  • PUTERA CAPITAL BHD recorded a lower pre-tax loss of RM8.86mil for the nine months ended Feb 29 against a pre-tax loss of RM10.16mil for the period ended Feb 28, 2003. 

    Revenue for the period declined to RM42.47mil from RM81.04mil. – Bernama 

  • IFCA MSC Bhd, SysWin Companies and Chen Liangshen have mutually agreed to terminate a joint-venture agreement entered into by the parties on Feb 2, 2004. – Bernama 

  • Yong Tai Bhd has proposed to undertake a private placement of new RM1 ordinary shares, representing 10% of its issued and paid-up capital, to raise gross proceeds of about RM4.89mil to RM5.32mil. 

    The company said the private placement was viewed as the most appropriate means to finance Yong Tai and its subsidiaries’ immediate working capital requirements. – Bernama 

  • MWE HOLDINGS BHD said it has accepted a RM6mil advance extended by its subsidiary Davex Holdings Bhd for the purpose of repayment of MWE’s bank borrowings. – Bernama 

  • Globetronics Technology Bhd said its first quarter to March 2004 net profit rose 21% to RM6.68mil from RM5.51mil in the same quarter a year ago, mainly due to a better product mix. 

    Sales for the first quarter dropped 4% to RM76.10mil from RM79.47mil, while pre-tax profit increased 25.6% to RM7.35mil from RM5.85mil. 

    Globetronics said the first quarter turnover fell 16% quarter-on-quarter, while net profit declined 29% quarter-on-quarter as a result of seasonally-lower volume loadings from the group’s key customers during the first quarter. – AFX-Asia 

  • UTAMA BANKING GROUP BHD said it has won the Minister of Finance’s approval to sell 189.77 million shares or 85.1% of unit Utama Merchant Bank Bhd to Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd.  

    Utama said in a statement that information on the agreed terms would be announced at the appropriate time upon signing of the share sale agreement. – AFX-Asia 

  • Industronics Bhd, which supplies electronic scoreboards and intelligent transport systems for highways, said the Securities Commission (SC) had approved its one-into-two share split. 

    The company said in a statement the SC approval was subjected to the company being granted an extension up to Aug 15 to complete the exercise. – AFX-Asia 

  • Bursa Malaysia Bhd said it would close on May 3 and 4 in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad's birthday and Wesak Day. The exchange said in a statement it would reopen on May 5. – AFX-Asia 

  • PARAMOUNT CORP BHD announced that its wholly-owned KDU International Sdn Bhd has set up KDU International Training and Development Co Ltd in ChongQing, China, to provide educational services. – Bernama 

  • Chin Teck Plantations Bhd has recorded a pre-tax profit of RM27.32mil for the first half ended Feb 29, up from RM23.82mil in the same period a year ago. 

    The company said its revenue came in at RM45.65mil for the first two quarters, compared with RM42.56mil previously. – Bernama
