MANILA, Philippines (AP) - Philippine shares finished sharply higher Friday, with the main index posting a three-year closing high, as investors welcomed President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's slight lead over her main rival in the latest voter survey, traders said.
The benchmark 30-company Philippine Stock Exchange Index ended up 41.12 points, or 2.7 percent, at 1,589.40, its best close since March 8, 2001, when it finished at 1,589.57.
