THE IBM mainframe computer, celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, may be seen as a dinosaur. But it is at no risk of fading out just yet. IBM made major breakthrough in technology and sparked a revolution when the first mainframe, the IBM System/360, was introduced on April 7, 1964, and IBM is very much committed to keeping it relevant.
The mainframe has and would continue to power mission-critical applications of many organisations, said IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd country manager of zSeries Dickson Woo yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, at the 40th anniversary celebration of the mainframe, Malaysian leg.
