HONG KONG (AP) - Developing Asia-Pacific economies overcame the SARS crisis and fallout from the Iraq war and are poised for stronger growth this year, but poverty remains a major challenge and China's economy runs the risk of overheating, a U.N. official warned Friday.
Strong economic performances by China and India as well as a recovery in Japan all contributed to vibrant regional growth that is expected to rise to 6.4 percent this year, according to an annual report from the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
