BEIJING: China will accelerate reforms this year to ensure its banks are in better shape to fend off foreign competition arising from its membership of the World Trade Organisation, the banking watchdog said yesterday.
“We will actively push forward financial reform and opening, and an acceleration of banking reform is urgently demanded by the challenges of entry into the WTO,” the China Banking Regulatory Commission said in a statement.
