SYDNEY: Australia’s central bank kept interest rates on hold yesterday but with the 2003 fourth-quarter economic growth stronger than expected, markets are pricing in further increases this year.
Some economists questioned whether the robust growth, powered by strong consumer spending, had carried on into 2004 and the Australian dollar slid to its lowest level this year against both a surging US dollar and the euro.
