BEIJING: China will step up efforts this year to ease upward pressure on the yuan, including allowing companies to retain more hard currency and invest more overseas, the country's top foreign exchange official was quoted yesterday as saying.
Some US officials and industries have blamed the yuan's peg, at around 8.3 to the US dollar, for the loss of American manufacturing jobs as it makes China's exports artificially cheap as the greenback falls.
