SYDNEY: AXA Asia Pacific Holdings, Australia's second largest life insurer, said yesterday its annual net profit almost tripled following big one-off gains from asset sales and improving investment returns.

However, a firming Australian dollar took the gloss off its strong performance in Hong Kong, where it earns half its profits, as the company prepares to expand further into the potentially lucrative China market.
