Matsushita lifts forecasts

TOKYO: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, the maker of Panasonic brand of electronics, posted an 8% rise in quarterly profit yesterday and lifted its full-year forecast on the back of brisk sales of plasma TVs, DVD recorders and mobile phones. 

For the three months to end-December 2003, the group made a net profit of 24.3 billion yen (US$229mil) versus 22.4 billion a year earlier. And it raised its full-year net profit estimate for the business year to March by 17% to 35 billion yen. Matsushita had posted a loss of 19.45 billion yen in 2002/03.
