SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Business software maker PeopleSoft Inc.'s fourth-quarter profit plunged 70 percent, largely because of costs associated with its recent acquisition of J.D. Edwards & Co. - a deal that management says is exceeding expectations and helping to thwart a hostile takeover bid by rival Oracle Corp.
The Pleasanton, California-based company said Thursday that it earned $17.4 million, or 5 cents per share, during the final three months of 2003.
