SEATTLE: Amazon.com rode discounts and free shipping to strong fourth-quarter results, capping a year in which the Internet retailer posted its first annual profit.
Net income for the quarter ended Dec 31 was US$73.2mil, far better than the US$2.7mil it earned in the equivalent period of 2002.
