BANGKOK: Krung Thai Bank Plc, Thailand's second largest lender, said its fourth-quarter profit surged five-fold because interest income increased and bad-loan costs fell.
Net income in the three months to Dec 31 surged to 2.71 billion baht (US$69.4mil), from 534 million in the corresponding period a year ago, the bank said in a statement. Krung Thai beat expectations of 2.66 billion baht in profit, based on a Bloomberg News survey of six analysts.
