Stock market gets a strong lift

THE Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi gave the stock market a strong boost yesterday, lifting the KLSE Composite Index by more than 18 points to above 800. 

After weeks of listlessness, investor sentiment was greatly improved by the news, although much of the buying was only evident minutes before the market closed. The benchmark CI ended 18.47 points higher at 805.76, with gainers outnumbering losers by 640 to 173 and 205 counters closing unchanged. A total of 563 million shares changed hands during the day.
