Looking to grow market share

TODAY’s CEO Outlook features four CEOs heading the Malaysian operations of foreign consumer electronics or IT companies.

They are Jeong-Wook Kim of Samsung, Barry Lee of Nokia, Rainer Althoff of Siemens, and Eric Hoh of Veritas, who heads the software company’s Asia South operations.

Samsung products have made deep inroads against its Japanese and European competitors, not only in Malaysia, but in many other countries as well. Samsung is now an internationally recognised brand.

Kim’s mission is to continue to expand the market share of Samsung.

Lee is the first Malaysian to head the Nokia operations in Malaysia and his focus is to maintain and expand Nokia’s leadership in the mobile phone market.

For Althoff, 2003 was a difficult year, and 2004 will not be an easy one either given the fiscal restraint adopted by the government in its efforts to balance the budget, and the deferment of major construction projects.

But Hoh, who heads one of the most promising regions for Veritas, expects a strong year ahead.
