  • SAN FRANCISCO: Business software giant Oracle Corp saw both revenues and profit rise in its fiscal second quarter in yet another sign of a pickup in software spending. 

    The Silicon Valley company reported on Monday a profit of US$617mil, up more than 21% compared with its earnings of US$535mil in the corresponding period a year earlier.  

    Revenue of the world's second largest software company rose 8.2% to US$2.5bil from US$2.31bil a year earlier. – dpa 

  • SAN FRANCISCO: Motorola Inc, the world's second largest maker of mobile phones, will name former Sun Microsystems Inc president Edward Zander chief executive officer, a person familiar with the situation said. 

    Zander, 56, will replace Christopher Galvin, who's resigning from Schaumburg, Illinois-based Motorola after clashing with directors. 

    Zander faces the challenge of winning back mobile phone market share from Nokia Oyj and reviving a market capitalisation that tumbled 70% under his predecessor. – Bloomberg
