SINGAPORE: The Singapore government said yesterday the city-state's two main media companies, currently haemorrhaging losses due to increased competition and a sluggish local economy, could close unprofitable operations.
The two groups, publicly listed Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) and state-owned MediaCorp, were given licences to start new broadcast and newspaper operations in 2000 as part of government moves to increase competition in the city-state.
