SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Co, South Korea’s top vehicle maker, reported a surprise 1.7% rise in quarterly net profit yesterday, thanks to a lower tax burden and smaller losses at its financial units.
But tumbling operating profits underscored a difficult third quarter for the company, which suffered from poor domestic sales, a month-long strike, and a rising won during the period.
