TOKYO: Asian steel-producing giants Japan and South Korea kept their powder dry yesterday as they gave Washington a chance to avert a trade war over steel import tariffs ruled illegal by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The WTOs highest court had ruled on Monday that the US duties on imported steel violated international trade laws, raising the prospect of the European Union (EU) and other complainants retaliating if Washington failed to remove them.
