Industrial index up by almost 10%


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s industrial production index (IPI) for September 2003 increased by 9.7% to 214.2 compared with 195.2 recorded in the same month of 2002. 

Releasing details of the September IPI performance here yesterday, the Statistics Department said the higher IPI was backed by the expansion in the indices of manufacturing and electricity by 12.2% (239.1 from 213.1), and 4.1% (238.7 from 229.3), respectively.
