PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the award of the North-South double-tracking rail project was discussed during the Cabinet meeting yesterday and that the Government was obliged to award the contract to companies which offered the “best cost.”
Ircon International Ltd and China Railway Engineering Corp had been awarded letters of intent for the project but the job was finally given to the MMC-Gamuda consortium after the Government accepted the Malaysian joint venture’s bid of RM14.5bil.
