PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's statement yesterdaythat the government stood by the Letter of Award (LoA) given to the MMC-Gamuda consortium for the construction of the double-track railway project is timely.

Ever since the MMC-Gamuda consortium made it known on Oct 22 that the government had accepted its RM14.448bil bid for the construction of the 636 km of double track for the West Coast railway, the market has been awash with all sorts of recrimination, threats of litigation and rumours of retaliation, political or otherwise.
