Tesco Stores expected to break even by end-2004

TESCO Stores (M) Sdn Bhd, Sime Darby Bhd's joint venture with Tesco Plc, is expected to break even by the end of 2004 when it is operating eight or nine hypermarkets. 

Sime Darby group chief executive Tan Sri Nik Mohamed Yaacob said Tesco would continue to lose money until it reached a critical mass in terms of the number of hypermarkets in operation.
