No change seen in rail job award

The Malaysian government's intention to deal directly with the Indian and Chinese governments in the controversy over the award of its double-track rail project will not jeopardise the position of the MMC-Gamuda consortium, in terms of proceeding with the RM14.5bil job.

Industry sources familiar with the deal told StarBiz yesterday that the removal of any party given such a contract by the government would be unprecedented and although the MMC-Gamuda consortium had yet to sign a contract agreement with the government, the letter of award (LoA) itself was a legally binding agreement.
