Foreign Islamic banks can boost trade and FDI

HAVING foreign Islamic banks based in Malaysia will help boost the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) and trade into the country, said Bank Negara corporate communications director Abu Hassan Alshari.

“Generally, Malaysia has been receiving a lot of FDI but it's time to look at new markets, particularly those from the Islamic countries as well as new regions, like Africa and the Middle East,” he said, when interviewed at the Bank Negara booth at the OIC Expo 2003 on Wednesday.
