Apple swings back to profit on 19% surge in revenue

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Computer Inc has swung to a quarterly profit as strong back-to-school sales of its Macintosh computers and brisk demand for its iPod digital music players lifted revenue above analysts’ expectations.

The company said shipments of Macintosh computers rose 7% in its fourth quarter from the year-ago period, while shipments of iPod digital music players shot up 140%, contributing to a 19% surge in overall sales to their highest level in three years.
