CHICAGO: Motorola Inc is to spin ff its semiconductor unit into a separate firm as it focuses more closely on its battle with Nokia in the mobile phone market. The move by the world's No. 2 mobile phone maker, announced late on Monday, was not a surprise but came sooner than expected.
It came just two weeks after chairman and chief executive Christopher Galvin’s sudden resignation following clashes with the board over strategy. The company has yet to name a successor, which had been expected to be the first step before any major strategic changes.
