PARIS: Air France and KLM unveiled plans yesterday to create Europe’s leading airline, saying they were close to finalising a deal that would see the French carrier acquire its smaller Dutch rival for 784 million euros (US$913.9mil) in stock.
The outlines of Europe’s first major cross-border airline merger were approved late on Monday evening by the boards of the continent’s second and fourth ranked carriers after more than a year of alliance talks.
