NEW YORK: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) chairman Richard Grasso has resigned in the face of a growing outcry among investors, regulators and top Wall Street companies over his US$140mil pay package.
Grassos departure on Wednesday, which came two years to the day after he triumphantly reopened the NYSE after the Sept 11 attacks on New York, raises questions about the exchanges dual role as a regulator and for-profit securities market.
