Nikkei closes above 10,000 points as Asian markets rally


ASIAN stocks rallied, with Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average closing above 10,000 for the first time in a year. Exporters such as Tokyo Electron Ltd and Hyundai Motor Co led gains after a US factory production report signalled a rebound in the world's biggest economy. 

The Nikkei gained 1.7% to 10,032.97, the highest since Aug 26, 2002. South Korea's Kospi index climbed 0.4% to this year's high, while benchmarks in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan rallied to their highest in more than 13 months.
