Shameem Abdul Jalil

  • THE Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) has elected Shameem Abdul Jalil as president at its AGM last month, the first woman to hold the post in the association’s 40-year history. 

    IPRM said in a statement that Shameem, who has served the council for five years, took over from Prof Datuk Hamdan Adnan. 

    The 500-member association governs professional public relations practice in the country. 

    Shameem, who is Public Bank director of corporate communications, has her first degree in mass communications from UiTM and a Masters degree in communications planning from the University of Wolverhampton, Britain.

    Other IPRM office bearers for the current one-year term are vice-president Doris Lim (from Matrix Communications), treasurer Datuk Sharifah Mohd Ismail (Telekom Malaysia) and secretary Thomas Samuel (Maxis Communications). 

  • Jeremie Ting Keng Fui was re-elected as the Institute of Company Secretaries Malaysia’s (ICSM) president and Akbar Moidunny elected as its deputy president for the term 2003-2004. The institute’s newly-elected vice-president is Datuk Rajakumaran Rajadurai. 

    Ting is the company secretary of IJM Corp Bhd, Industrial Concrete Products Bhd and IJM Plantations Bhd while Akbar is the group chairman/managing director of MINC Corporate Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd.  

    Datuk Rajakumaran is the group company secretary of the Business Focus Group.  

  • TNS, a market information group has appointed James Hall as managing director, Asia Pacific, with immediate effect.  

    Based in Sydney, Australia, Hall would be responsible for further developing the combined TNS and NFO businesses in Asia Pacific, on both country and regional level, said a statement.
