KUMPULAN Darul Ehsan Bhd (KDEB), an investment company owned by the Selangor government, has won a contract worth RM1bil to provide clean water supply and build a highway in Indonesia's Riau province.
KDEB and two other Malaysian companies signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with PT Pengembangan Investasi Riau in Pekanbaru, Riau yesterday.
KDEB and Putera Capital Bhd entered into an understanding with PT Pengembangan to provide clean water supply from the Rokan River to Dumai village in a project worth RM280mil.
KDEB and Malaysia Smarthill Sdn Bhd also signed an MoU with PT Pengembangan to build a 155km highway from Pekanbaru to Dumai in a project expected to cost RM680mil.
The signing of the MoUs coincided with the Selangor Investment and Tourism seminar in Riau following the state’s inclusion in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMTGT) pact.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo witnessed the event, which was also attended by entrepreneurs, businessmen and tour agents from Selangor and Riau.
KDEB president Datuk Zabir Bajuri said the Malaysian companies had 49% stakes in both projects and Pengembangan Investasi Riau, 51%.
He said a consortium led by KDEB would carry out a feasibility study before the start of both projects.
“We hope to complete the study within three months,” he added.
Besides the MoUs involving KDEB, Noble Nexus Sdn Bhd and DPMS Corp Bhd also signed an MoU with Riau Bakti Consult, which enables the latter to represent IMTGT in Riau and to carry out negotiations involving projects there.
Noble Nexus is a management and financial consultant company from Selangor which initiated the IMTGT while DPMS Corp is a subsidiary of the Selangor Malay Chamber of Commerce. Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd also signed an MoU with Dinas Pendidikan Provinsi Riau to promote Selangor-Riau tourism. – Bernama
