STAR Publications (M) Bhd has declared an interim dividend of 10 sen per share less tax for the quarter ended June 30, compared with a tax-exempt dividend of 7.5 sen per share for the corresponding period last year.
Pre-tax profit was unchanged at RM28mil compared with RM28.6mil a year ago, while revenue rose to RM142.7mil from RM135.8mil before.
Net profit for the quarter was flat at RM22.5mil, while earnings per share was down slightly to 7.21 sen per share from 7.38 sen previously.
“Despite an increase in revenue of 5.1% compared with the corresponding quarter last year, profit after tax was maintained due mainly to higher depreciation,” the company said.
For the six months to June 30, Star Publications posted a pre-tax profit of RM51.7mil compared with RM47.5mil a year ago.
Revenue rose to RM274.4mil from RM248.4mil while net profit increased to RM41.1mil from RM37.5mil. Earnings per share improved to 13.15 sen from 12.31 sen.
“The SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak briefly affected revenue marginally in the second quarter but revenues are expected to return to normal in the second half of 2003,” the company said.
Star Publications' revenue and profit in the second quarter were higher than that in the preceding quarter.
“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the board of directors expects a favourable trend in the group's results to continue for the remainder of 2003,” the company added.
