SALES in the manufacturing sector increased by 5.2% or RM1.3bil to RM26.4bil in May from RM25.1bil a year ago. It was also higher by 0.8% or RM0.2bil than the RM26.2bil reported in April.
SBB Securities economist Manokaran Mottain said the slight growth in the value of manufacturing sales - considered a proxy to domestic demand - reflected consumers' concerns post the Iraq war and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in the region.
